The 2025 Pen & Podium Season is Well Underway
We kicked off our year with two spectacular events back-to-back -- one with Erik Larson and the other with Tommy Orange. Both events were incredibly meaningful to me, though for different reasons.
Seventeen years ago, I did the on-stage moderation for my very first Pen & Podium author – Erik Larson, who was then promoting his spectacular book The Devil in the White City. On January 27, Erik and I got to take the stage together once again. A lot has changed over the last almost two decades, but Erik is still one of the kindest, warmest, most thoughtful and generous of people to host. Such an amazing way to kick off yet another year of authors & books at my beloved P&P.
Hosting Tommy Orange was an absolute dream. I don’t think I’ve EVER hosted an author with such a thoughtful approach to craft. “Writing,” he said, “is always thinking about the reader. And, the act of writing is a communion with the reader. So, even though you are writing in isolation, the writing itself serves a greater purpose: a connection based on words but beyond words.” Truly one of the most memorable events I’ve ever hosted, which is why I’m living in a space of shit-eating-grin gratitude in the photo above.
