Jeffrey Neuman
Jeffrey is an award-winning playwright whose work has been performed at theaters and festivals across the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. His plays have been produced and/or developed by Denver Center Theatre Company, Queens Theatre, Emerging Artists Theatre Company, LaMaMa, Paragon Theatre Company, National Public Radio, Stage Left, Edinburgh Fringe, FUSION Theatre Company, and the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Festival, among many others. His play Exit Strategies, won The Edge Theatre's 2014 New Play Contest and went on to full production by the company in 2015, where it was warmly received with a Marlowe Award for "Best New Play" as well as a Colorado Theatre Guild Henry Award nomination for "Best Original New Work." His newest play, What You Will, also earned a Marlowe Award for "Best New Play" as well a CTG Henry Award nomination.
As a director and dramaturg, Jeffrey has worked for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. He has presented professional papers for the Association for Theater in Higher Education, the American Alliance of Theatre Education, and the American Music Research Center. In 2009, his original research was acknowledged in the book Kander and Ebb, an installment in the Yale University Press Broadway Masters series.
In 2012, he co-founded Rough Draught Playwrights (RDP), a Denver-based company that strives to connect Colorado playwrights in a collaborative, supportive, fun-filled way. RDP hosts quarterly events called "Open Mic Theatrical Playgrounds," at which playwrights at any level of development can present works-in-progress in front of a relaxed and friendly audience.
Jeffrey is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and is currently serving as a DG Ambassador for the Colorado Region.
Outside of his playwriting activities Jeff has worked in a variety of management and marketing roles – everything from customer service to community relations and PR. He currently works as a custom organization space designer and facilitates literary events for the Denver Post's esteemed Pen & Podium series (www.penandpodium.com, photos below).
He lives in Denver with his husband.
